Urban Massage Review

As much as you take the precautions to avoid over doing things that could cause injuries (aches and pains and stiffness), they can still happen. One way to help with this is to have a sports massage as they are designed to relieve and prevent muscle strains and complications.

Now I’ve had plenty of sports massages before in various settings – from college students just starting out to professionals in clinics but I’ve never had anyone come out to my home to give me a massage. If I’m honest I always thought that was reserved for the super rich celebrities who had the time and money. That was until I came across Urban Massage anyway!

Urban Massage are an on-demand massage company who allow you to book a professional massage wherever you are with a trusted, professional and reliable therapist, who will even be with you in 60 minutes if you need them that quick.

It’s so convenient and easy to arrange too. All you do is enter your address on the site or through the app so you can find the best therapists near you. Select the date and time that’s convenient for you, then the massage you’d like, your chosen therapist and lastly confirm your booking.

So I booked a 90 minute session with Alexandra for a Sunday morning at 10am with the app even scheduling the appointment in my calendar for me. You could say I’m a sucker for punishment booking for that time on a Sunday but as I’ve just upped my training this week I thought it would be best to get in early as I’ve been having a bit of a problem with the right hand side of my chest and shoulder.

So the day came and after a quick tidy of the house I was waiting for Alexandra to arrive. I answered the door and was greeting with a big friendly smile. Alexandra looked very professional with a clean black uniform with the Urban Massage logo on it. She was carrying a huge fold up massage bed so I quickly showed her to the front room so she could set up the bed.

After setting up, Alexandra took me through the process of how she would carry out the treatment. She took some details and ensured I was fit enough to have the massage. She asked about my general wellbeing and if I felt if I had any issues that needed to be addressed so told her about my right chest/shoulder issue and that I was worried it could be a rotor cuff injury and that it was preventing me from training my chest properly.

So a series of assessment was done around my movement in this area with some advice on what the issue could be. It turned out that it’s more than likely my pectoral muscle so I’m advised not to train that area for a while.

So I jumped up on the massage table and work started with a focus around my issue before moving onto my legs and finishing on my back. I chose a tangerine oil as it was more up-lifting. It was perfect for a Sunday morning, had it been later in the evening I’d have probably picked the lavender oil to help with my sleep.

I have a pretty high pain threshold which is not always good because I’ve found in the past that some therapists are reluctant to work too hard despite giving feedback that it’s ok. I was really happy that Alexandra was vocal with what she was doing and listened to the feedback I was giving her when she asked me questions. This mean’t I got a lot of benefits out of the massage.

The massage was brilliant from start to finish and the pressure was perfect all the way through. Alexandra used techniques from knuckles, elbows, arms and hands to get all the knots out of my muscles.

I was given some great aftercare at the end of my massage with regards to stretching and warming up when training. I was told to drink more water and to relax following the massage. I was told to expect some slight bruising as it’s not uncommon. If I’m honest, it was the best 90 minute sports massage I’ve ever had! So good in fact that I’m rebooking next month with Alexander. I was left feeling fresh, loose and with a better range of movement. My chest/shoulder area felt so much better as did my legs.

My whole experience with Urban Massage was great and I’m really looking forward to my next treatment in my own home!
