5 Ways To Stay Fit As A Family

Post Type

If you have children, of course you want them to grow up strong and healthy. Speaking from experience, it can be hard to juggle work responsibility, family and physical activity. Well, it can be easier than you think when it comes to setting a healthy example for your children. So if you’re looking for ways to stay healthy as a family. Make sure you check these tips below.

Take classes together

Have a look around the local and surrounding areas and see if there are any places offering aerobic or yoga classes for children and parents together. Children and parent yoga classes is a great way of introducing children to a healthy lifestyle. The main goal of this is to stimulate the mental, physical and emotional abilities of the children.

Plan outdoor activities

We know life can be busy so setting aside one day a week to do something active as a family will do you the world of good. Whether this is swimming in the summer, biking in the spring and bird watching in the winter. These are all simple and easy things you can do.

For the latter, I recently read a lovely quote over at Kennedy Wild Bird Food which said: “Encouraging children to appreciate the nature around them from an early age will put them in good stead for the future. Especially when it comes to looking after the environment and staying active outdoors. Feeding birds in the winter is also an important aspect as food sources tends to be scarce, meaning birds rely on us more than ever to help them thrive.”

Bring along a lovely picnic lunch and some tasty treats after all the activities and don’t forget to pack plenty of tasty treats for the birds too!

Make house jobs fun

Instead of having your children do separate jobs around the house, think about turning them into a game you can participate in together. This could perhaps be a race to see how fast you can get the house cleaned, beating records from the previous week. Or perhaps turn walking the dog into a family occasion. This is sure fire way of getting your kids outdoors and appreciating the nature around them.

Make your meal plan together

Although this isn’t’ technically a fitness tip, it’s always worth mentioning. Families that eat healthily together also tend to develop healthier habits, such as frequent physical activity. Also, getting your family on board with the new regime will make it much easier. Bring them along to the supermarket and let them pick out their own fruit and veg. If you involve them in the food preparation, they are lot more likely to clean their plates and enjoy mealtimes.

Encourage their interests

If your child has taken an interest in wanting to cycle a bike, take up Judo or learn how to swim, then take the time to teach them. This will help develop a positive attitude towards exercise. It’s a fact that Children learn most of their habits by watching their parents. This is why you should show them that you enjoy the activity by getting involved yourself.
